It's been more than two months since I last blogged. No excuses other than that it's been a busy few months with lots of workshops and tours over the autumn. It's been wonderful to meet new guests as well as to catch up with old friends from around the world. The weather over the summer was not the best this year. Indeed, it is fair to say that this has been the wettest few months on Mull for many years. This autumn, however, has seen some superb light and it has been an absolute pleasure to share transient moments such as the storm light over Gribun and Inch Kenneth as seen in these images with fellow photographers. The dreich, rain sodden days of the summer are but a distant memory now as autumn segues into early winter. Ben More, Dun da Ghaoithe and the other Mull hills are now wearing a dusting of snow.
Of course, winter brings with it the occasional gale and last week along with much of the rest of Scotland, Mull experienced a severe storm with winds up to Force 12, i.e hurricane strength. The video below was shot on my newish Panasonic Lumix LX5 in Tobermory Bay. Many houses on the island were without power for 48 hours (in some parts of the west coast, much longer). However, I am pleased to report that we survived without Facebook and that playing pool by headtorch in the Mishnish and heating up soup on a camping stove in the beer garden can be immense fun.
