The Linda Norgrove Foundation

Last September, Scottish aid worker, Linda Norgrove was kidnapped in Afghanistan and was subsequently killed by US troops during a rescue operation a few weeks later. Linda was from the Isle of Lewis and had worked in Afghanistan for several years. A charitable foundation has been set up in her memory, the objectives of which are to support projects for Afghan women, children and families in relation to health, education and also to provide scholarships to help Afghan women go to university. Linda's sister, Sofie lives in Argyll and has organised a charity auction for Saturday 30 April. An Islandscape Photography tour is one of the lots, together with some type one gravel and a cut and blow dry (this is the west coast, after all...). This is a fantastic cause: please visit the Linda Norgrove Foundation website. This quote says it all:

"Linda is not defined by the tragic circumstances of her death, but by the life she lived and the choices she made. (....) Linda, and those rare people like her, are trail blazers for all of us who wish for a better world. They are the standard bearers of hope, the people who make change happen so that societies throughout the world can have hope of future peace and self-determination. Linda lived in the day and always looked forward with hope – she would have wanted us to look forward with hope too."
